The heavy traffic congestion around the malls has been creating issues for many in Chennai is a well known fact.
Now, CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has given warning of enforcement action to the malls in the city if the malls don`t take action to avoid traffic congestion around the mall buildings.
A meeting took place on Wednesday, 25th October 2023 between CMDA and representatives of shopping malls. Mr. Anshul Mishra, member secretary of CMDA had instructed the representatives of malls that they must ensure that the pick-up and drop of customers must take place inside the mall premises and not on the roads. It must be taken into account that action would be taken on the malls if they continue to hinder the traffic flow.
Point to be noted is that traffic congestion was heavy in front of Anna Nagar based VR Mall and in front of Royapettah based Express Avenue Mall when compared to other malls in Chennai.
The CMDA member secretary Mr. Anshul Mishra directed the owners of the malls to take steps like regulating the parking spaces in the mall premises and creating additional parking spaces etc.
Arrangement of Traffic Marshalls etc:
The release from CMDA mentioned that traffic Marshalls must be arranged by the concerned malls by wearing reflector jackets. It added that the Traffic Marshalls should regulate traffic in-front of the malls.
The mall owners have been asked to ensure about separate entry and exit points so that the vehicles could enter the mall from front side and exit from rear side. In addition, the mall owners have been asked to find a temporary parking lot (in case of many vehicles coming to the malls at the same time) to make sure that there was no traffic congestion on the roads.
