In an official statement released by the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Research Center, P. Chenthamaraikannan, it was revealed that the forecasted heavy rainfall is attributed to an atmospheric low-pressure system prevailing over the South West Bengal Sea and its adjacent areas. The meteorological predictions indicate that thunderstorms are expected in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The following schedule outlines the forecasted rain patterns:
- Today (October 28) - Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram districts are likely to experience heavy rain in isolated areas.
- October 29 - Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Villupuram districts, and Puducherry are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
- October 30 - The delta districts, along with Ramanathapuram, Theni, Nilgiris, Pudukottai districts, and Karaikal, are likely to encounter heavy rainfall.
- November 1 - On this date, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is anticipated at one or two places.
Chennai and its surrounding areas are expected to remain partly cloudy over the next 48 hours, with the possibility of sporadic light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The maximum temperature in the city is forecasted to be 91 degrees Fahrenheit, while the minimum temperature is expected to be 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
