The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory indicating the likelihood of heavy rain in 19 districts of Tamil Nadu today. S. Balachandran, the head of the South Zone at the Indian Meteorological Survey, provided further details during a press briefing yesterday.
According to Balachandran, from today until the 6th, and in some areas on the 7th and 8th, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry can expect light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Additionally, there may be light to moderate rain in select regions on the 9th.
He went on to specify that heavy to very heavy rain is anticipated in certain hilly regions, including Coimbatore district, Nilgiris, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, as well as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tirupur, Erode, Thenkasi, Theni, and Dindigul districts. Moreover, Karaikal is also expected to witness heavy rain in a few areas.
Furthermore, heavy rain may impact isolated locations in Nilgiri, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, and Salem districts on the following day. On the 6th, heavy rain is forecasted for hilly areas in Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupathur, Salem, Theni, Dindigul, and Tiruppur.
In contrast, Chennai and its suburbs are expected to experience partly cloudy skies, with some areas potentially receiving light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Occasional heavy rain is also anticipated. The maximum temperature is predicted to reach 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be 26 degrees Celsius.
