The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert indicating the likelihood of heavy rain in 11 districts, including Coimbatore and Dindigul, for today and tomorrow. Director of the Chennai Zonal Meteorological Center, P. Senthamaraik Kannan, released a statement explaining the forecast:
An atmospheric low-pressure system is currently prevailing over the Southeast and adjoining Middle East Arabian Sea regions. As a result, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in most areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 8th and 9th due to the influence of the northeast monsoon.
The following districts are anticipated to experience heavy rainfall at one or two locations: Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.
In Chennai and its suburbs, the skies will remain partly cloudy today. Some areas within the city may witness light to moderate rainfall, along with thunder and lightning. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 88-89 degrees Fahrenheit, with a minimum temperature of 77-79 degrees Fahrenheit.
Notably, Bhavani and Kanyakumari in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu recorded the highest amount of rainfall, receiving 12 cm within a 24-hour period, up until 8.30 am yesterday.
