In preparation for Deepavali, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police urge shoppers to park in designated public lots in key areas like T. Nagar, Purasawalkam, MC Road, Washermenpet, and Koyambedu. The emphasis is on preventing traffic obstructions due to haphazard parking. Firecracker vendors in Flower Bazaar have been relocated for safety, with a reminder that carrying crackers on two-wheelers is risky.
To ease congestion, empty autos are prohibited in densely populated Purasavakkam and T. Nagar. Pedestrians are encouraged to cross at less crowded spots and arrange for their auto journeys. Goods vehicles are restricted in these areas, with loading and unloading advised during nighttime.
Motorists heading to T. Nagar via CIT Nagar can travel up to Kannammapet junction, then turn left to navigate via Muthurangan Road to Usman Road, utilizing less congested routes. Special parking arrangements for Diwali include spots at Somasundaram Park on Thiagaraya Road, Thanikasalam Road, Nachiyar Road in Mahalakshmi Street, and two-wheeler parking at Mothilal Street in T. Nagar.
In Purasawalkam, parking options encompass Municipal Corporation Ground on Narayana Guru Road, Ewart School on Alagappa Road, ELM School Ground on Purasavakkam Highway Road, and GE Kovil Street. Bus passengers heading to Koyambedu are advised to opt for public transport like Chennai Metro and city buses to alleviate traffic congestion. Special buses are arranged for those traveling to hometowns. The public is urged to cooperate with these transport arrangements.
