Chennai airport is one of the busiest airports in India. Every day, the airport operates an average of 400 flights.
The domestic T1 terminal in the Chennai airport has become highly congested. A decision was taken to operate the second domestic terminal T4 is known to us. On Wednesday, 15th of November 2023, the second domestic terminal began to operate. In the month of April 2023, the integrated terminal T2 built at a cost of Rs 1260 cr was inaugurated.
From July onwards, the terminal became fully operative for the public. Truth is that the old terminals were closed down and AAI or Airport Authority of India started a second phase of expansion and the T3 terminal was demolished. It was decided by AAI to operate T4 as a domestic terminal to reduce congestion.
On Tuesday, a trial run took place at the Chennai airport regarding the operation of T4 terminal. It was confirmed by some officers from AAI that from Wednesday Air India and Air Alliance flights would be operated from the T4 terminal. From T1 terminal, other flights like IndiGo and other airlines would be operated.
