This piece of information would surely make many devotees feel delighted!!
It is now said that after a long gap of 54 years Soorasamharam festival would be held at the famous Sri Subramanya Swamy temple at Kundrathur in Chennai. This would be carried out as a part of the annual Kandha Shasti festival. Recently, the board of trustees took part in a meeting and they have decided to revive the event.
Since 1969, there have been tussle issues between 2 groups during the festival plus there were not sufficient funds to conduct Soorasamharam event at this temple. As a result, the event was not held. This was explained by some sources belonging to the HR & CE department.
The local residents and devotees have requested to revive the superb event. The trustees took part in a meeting and decided to revive the Soorasamharam event at the temple. This was as per an official.
As a part of HR & CE dept effort to revive forgotten temple festivals and practices, the Soorasamharam event would take place. This was brought out by Mr. P.K. Sekar Babu, minister for HR & CE.
It must be recalled that after a long gap of 45 years, the float festival at Namakkal based Periamariamman temple was revived. In the same way, after a long gap of 40 years, the float festival at Nagapattinam based Ettukudi Subramania Swami temple was also revived. After 20 long years, Sethu Madhava Theertha tank was also opened for the public at the Rameswaram based Sri Ramanathaswamy temple etc.
Minister Mr. Sekarbabu later spoke about how the temples are being encouraged to conduct `gho` pujas as a part of Viswaroopa puja in the early morning.
