Headquartered in Chennai, Sankara Nethralaya is a non profit missionary organisation that has been providing superb eye treatments for many. This organisation was founded by Dr. S. Badrinath in the year 1978 is known to us.
Dr. S. Badrinath passed away on Tuesday 21st November. He was suffering from age related issues. His wife Dr. Vasanthi is a famous paediatrician and haematologist is known.
After coming to India from the USA in 1970, Mr. Badrinath worked at VHS in Adyar from 1970 to 1976. It must be noted that he had set up private practice in ophthalmology at the H.M. Hospital from 1970 to 1972 and later in the famous Vijaya Hospital from 1972 to 1978.
In 1978, Dr. Badrinath founded the medical research Foundation and Sankara Nethralaya is the hospital unit, a charitable non profit organisation. It is superb to mention here that he built the hospital entirely on the donations given by the philanthropists etc. Since then, Sankara Nethralaya has been providing quality eye care at an affordable rate for many patients. For his superb work in the eye field, Dr. Badrinath received Padma Shri award in 1983 and Padma Bhushan ward in 1999. Rest in Peace Sir!!
