Chennai has been engulfed in heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity since early Saturday morning, attributed to a cyclonic circulation prevailing over the Tamil Nadu coast. Various areas in the city, including Guindy, Velachery, Avadi, Poonamallee, Thiruverkadu, Chembarambakkam, Kotturpuram, T Nagar, Mylapore, Madipakkam, Adambakkam, Washermanpet, Pammal, and Tondiarpet, have experienced substantial rainfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued updates indicating that the rain is expected to persist for the next three hours. This meteorological development comes after the RMC had issued an orange alert for Western Ghats districts on Thursday, predicting heavy rain for the subsequent 48 hours.
