Though it`s both sweet and sour in taste, we all eat the tropical fruit pineapples. The distinct taste of pineapples is due to the presence of many volatile compounds present in it.  Pineapples have many nutrients like sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium vitamins like C, B6, niacin, pantothenic acid etc. By eating pineapples we could get many health benefits like good digestion, antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, healthy skin, healthy heart etc. Fact is that excess intake of pineapples is not advisable as it could cause harm for us.

It must be noted that we could avoid eating excess pineapples every day by eating the recommended dosage. For males, it is 30 to 38gms and for females it is 21 to25 gms.

What will happen if we eat an excess of pineapples?

Various health issues we could get are

Allergic reactions:

The bromelain that is present in the pineapples could lead to allergic reactions. Persons would have hives, itching, rashes, swelling etc. Sometimes, the person could get issues in breathing plus chest pain, low BP etc also.

Discomfort in abdomen:

It is known that pineapples have vitamin C and when a person consumes excess amounts of this vitamin he or she would get nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, loss of appetite etc.

Toxicity:

Be careful and do not consume unripened pineapples as they could be toxic to humans. Intake of pineapples in raw unripened form would lead to few issues like pain in the abdomen, diarrhoea etc.

Heavy bleeding:

By excess intake of pineapples, a person could get heavy bleeding. Therefore, it is not advisable to eat pineapples when a person has bleeding issues. Intake of pineapples must also be avoided by a pregnant woman.

Dental issues:

There are chances of teeth decay when we eat pineapples in excess amounts and this could be due to the presence of different enzymes and sugars in it. Without practising oral hygiene, we must not eat pineapples in excess amounts.

Increased blood sugar levels:

Those persons who are pre-diabetic or diabetic must not eat pineapples in excess. Truth is that the blood sugar levels would increase and the person could get health complications.

Kidney based issues:

Persons with chronic kidney disease or CKD must not eat excess pineapples and it would lead to issues due to potassium. When persons with kidney issues eat pineapples then potassium would get accumulated in blood serum leading to hyperkalemia issue.
