Preventing the spread of rat fever and cholera in Chennai etc after floods - Measures taken by the health dept now!!

The news is that the public health department has advised to distribute medicines to the public as precaution to prevent the spread of rat fever and cholera etc. Now, a circular has been sent on behalf of the public health dept to all the concerned authorities.
According to the circular, rat fever and cholera are likely to spread in places affected by the rains and floods. In this scenario, precautionary instructions have been issued to prevent the spread.
The circular mentioned that the immunity boosting medicines must be provided to the public through medical teams and when needed, vaccination must also be done. Important medicines like azithromycin and doxycycline etc must be distributed to the public and health workers etc based on their age. This would have to be confirmed by the concerned health officers.
