As Chennai and its suburbs continue to grapple with the aftermath of the Mikjam storm-induced rain and floods, the Chennai Meteorological Department anticipates moderate rain persisting for two days in the area. Simultaneously, a weather alert has been issued for 10 districts, including Coimbatore and Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, forecasting heavy rainfall on Saturday (Dec. 9).

In a press release issued on Thursday, the Center reported that on Saturday (Dec. 9), the districts of Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Tirupur are likely to experience heavy rain due to a change in the speed of easterly winds.

The Chennai Meteorological Department has cautioned that light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur in various parts of Chennai and Buk areas on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 8-9). The sky over the city is expected to remain mostly cloudy during this period.

Noteworthy rainfall figures (in mm) from recent observations include Varattupallam (Erode) - 110, Komuki Dam (Kallakurichi) - 80, and Kachirapalayam (Kallakurichi) and Thirukkuvalai (Nagapattinam) with 10 each.

Meanwhile, a disturbance approximately 55 km southeast of the Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep areas on Saturday (Dec. 9) raises concerns, with fishermen strongly advised against venturing into these regions due to the likelihood of hurricane-force winds.
