Rain Expected in South Tamil Nadu Today and Tomorrow: Chennai Meteorological Center

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Center has forecasted the possibility of rain in South Tamil Nadu for today and tomorrow. Director P. Chenthamarai Kannan issued a press release yesterday, stating that the atmospheric circulation prevailing in the Kumari Sea and adjacent areas has now extended to Lakshadweep and its surroundings.

According to the release, light to moderate rain is anticipated at a few places in South Tamil Nadu, as well as a couple of locations in North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on both December 20 and December 21. Further, from December 22 to 25, a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall.

In the last 24 hours until 8:30 am yesterday, Tamil Nadu experienced varying degrees of rainfall. The highest recorded rainfall, at 23 cm, was in Tiruchendur of Thoothukudi district. Following closely, Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi district received 21 cm of rain, while Nalumuk in Tirunelveli district recorded 19 cm. Other notable rainfall amounts include 18 cm in Kakachi, 17 cm in Mancholai, 13 cm in Kookaraipatti, 12 cm in Ambasamudram, and 11 cm in Papanasam.

For Chennai, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy today, with a chance of light rain in some parts of the city. Fishermen are strongly advised to avoid venturing into the southeastern coastal areas, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Kumari Sea, as mentioned in the advisory.
