Train services in southern districts faced the brunt of heavy rainfall for the third consecutive day, resulting in the cancellation of over 30 train services. Several districts, including Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, experienced unprecedented rainfall, leading to severe damage on crucial routes like Tirunelveli - Tiruchendur. Repair work is underway at the affected railway tracks, but disruptions persist.
The heavily impacted train routes include Tiruchendur - Tirunelveli, Vanchimaniyachi - Tiruchendur, Tirunelveli–Sengottai, Tirunelveli–Nagercoil, Vanchimaniyacha - Thoothukudi, and Thoothukudi - Tirunelveli, with services remaining suspended for the third consecutive day. However, in a positive development, the Chennai Egmore - Tirunelveli Express train has resumed normal operations since yesterday.
Railway officials are working tirelessly to repair the damaged tracks and have assured that essential measures are being taken to restore normalcy in train services over the next two days. The rains have subsided, enabling the removal of excess water from affected areas. Despite challenges, Southern Railway is committed to ensuring the swift resumption of train services, minimizing inconvenience for passengers.
