According to the CUMTA or Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority, once when the Infrastructure Development Board gives its approval then steps would be taken to implement the plan to travel using a single ticket in the metro trains and in the MTC buses in Chennai.

It must be recalled that since 2010 CUMTA has been working to improve transport and infrastructural facilities in Chennai. Fact is that the plan to travel in the metro trains and MTC buses in Chennai with just a single ticket has raised huge expectations.

The preliminary work for this has been completed and a question has been raised in the RTI Act to provide details about the scheme and the date of implementation etc.

It was explained by CUMTA to a question raised by a transport activist Mr. Anbalagan that in order to introduce an application for integrated QR ticketing and travel planning a policy level approval order was issued on the behalf of the housing dept on 18th of November 2023. The CUMTA stated that a detailed feasibility report for the project was prepared and submitted to TNIDB or Tamil Nadu infrastructural Development Board for its approval. The contract would be requested after the approval.
