Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur is gearing up for the Pongal holidays with enhanced safety measures and the introduction of new animals for visitors.
Among the additions is a Himalayan black bear from Jammu, along with species like the Oriental pied hornbill, Malayan giant squirrel, and red-breasted parakeet. The zoo will remain open throughout the Pongal festival, including January 16, with improved ticketing options such as 10 live counters, online booking, and a QR code-based system.
To manage the expected crowd, 130 forest staff, 100 police personnel, and 150 NSS and NCC college students will be deployed. Additional facilities include metal detectors, drinking water, bio-toilets, medical help desks, and shuttle service buses for visitors. The zoo has also installed extra focus lights for better visibility in the late evening.
