Reducing the fatalities due to road accidents is a highly challenging task is known. The CUMTA or Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority has organised its second road safety meeting. The main objective behind this meeting would be to achieve fatality reduction.
Commissioner, commissionerate of transport, TN Transport Authority, Mr. A. Shanmugha Sundaram chaired this important meeting.
Discussion in the meeting:
It is learnt that during the meeting organised by CUMTA status of road safety in Chennai, Tambaram and Avadi was discussed. There were also some discussions regarding creating a working group for improving road accident data collection and analysis, adopting new urban road standards, maintenance of road marking and signage. Importance was also given in the meeting regarding helmet enforcement for the pillion riders in the two wheelers plus capacity building activities to improve road safety engineering etc were discussed.
