A new Mofussil Bus Terminus has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 393 Crores at Kilambakkam near Vandalur and has been dedicated to public service.
In the first phase of this project, only the Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation buses are being operated from this New Kilambakkam Bus Terminus.
The State Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the full-fledged operation of all Express Transport Corporation Buses of the Tamil Nadu State Government will be operated from here. Further, all the Omni-buses will commence operating from here.
To facilitate the public in reaching this new Kilambakkam Bus Terminus, linking buses are being operated from various parts of the Chennai Metro City.
However, this has not been sufficient. Furthermore, there is no facility for auto-rickshaws at this terminus.
As such, the demand was made to introduce immediately the facility of pre-paid autos here.
As an immediate follow-up, prepaid auto services have commenced at the new bus terminus at Kilambakkam from yesterday (Thursday, 18th January).
The autos, recommended by the All Auto Labor Federation, had started functioning from yesterday, 18th January, carrying the passengers.
Fares fixed by the Tamil Nadu State Government: The rate for this prepaid auto service has been fixed at Rs. 18 per km.
Furthermore, the officials explained that the permitted autos were thoroughly checked for all required documents, and only then were they selected for the pre-paid service.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been made for parking the pre-paid autos.
Shamianas (with roofs) have been erected for the passengers` facility. However, facilities such as drinking water and toilets are not available yet!
The auto drivers as well as the public have put up a demand to provide these facilities immediately, and the auto drivers have appealed to the State Government of Tamil Nadu to revise the recommended rate of Rs. 18/- per km upwards!
