One day every one of us would grow old, become weak and depend on others etc. It is true that old age is inevitable. These days, many elderly or senior persons reside in old age homes in Chennai due to various reasons. These senior people feel isolated and lonely in old age homes etc.
In order to bring joy, companionship and a sense of belonging to the senior persons in the old age homes a cultural fest called Mudhiyor Thiruvizha would be held at DAV School in Pallikaranai in Chennai on the 4th of February. This fest would be organised jointly by VTVO or V The Volunteers and Talent Quest of India or TQI. The event would be held from 9am to 5pm.
It was later brought to light by the founder of VTVO Mr. Suren that seniors residing in the old age homes often experience social isolation. To overcome this issue, the seniors would be brought together in the elder`s fest. It must be taken into account that since May 2023 the VTVO volunteers at many old age homes in and around Chennai. The weekends have been dedicated to activities like board games and colouring etc. Truth is that this ongoing effort led to building trust. He spoke about how the process began in 2023 and how it was expanded to reach out to 60 old age homes in and around Chennai.
In Bangalore, both VTVO and TQI have conducted this elder`s fest four times previously. It is now said that on 4th February as many as 300 senior citizens from 15 old age homes would take part in many games, competitions, on-stage performances etc.
The seniors in the old age homes are disconnected from their communities and their dear ones etc. This has been acknowledged by the elder`s fest. The superb piece of information is that this event would help the senior persons to connect with others, make new friends and involve in many activities that would be beneficial for their overall wellbeing.
This event might be made an annual event in Chennai also and this was mentioned by Mr. Anand Dhanasekara Pandian belonging to MEEL Foundation.
