Passengers have been finding it difficult as the Tamil Nadu government has shifted the bus terminus from the Koyambedu present in the western part of Chennai to Kilambakkam present in the southern part of Chennai. Passengers who travel frequently are complaining now about this.
In this scenario, PMK Leader Mr, Anbumani Ramdoss has written letters to 16 people now regarding converting the Kilambakkam bus terminus into a modern regional transport hub.
In his letter, he has mentioned that the passengers who travel from Chennai to other places across TN have been finding it difficult due to the shifting of the bus terminus from Koyambedu to Kilambakkam. He added that to change this current problem of the passengers and taking into account the future needs etc, Kilambakkam bus terminus should be converted into a regional transport hub.
It is learnt that a structure that would integrate more than one public transport facility in a single location in a modernised way is called a transport hub. In various cities across the world, modern practices of creating transport hub structures have been popular. In Kochi in Kerala state, this structure has been developed. It is now said that the Kilambakkam bus terminus should also be converted into a Kochi type modern regional transport hub.
It was mentioned in the letter that TOD or transit oriented development is promoting modes of transportation that could be beneficial to the wellbeing of the people. Both the central govt as well as the TN govt has adopted this TOD. It is worthy to note that the TN govt has not implemented all the above scientific transport related methods in an integrated way but it has taken just one transport oriented development concept creating more densely populated environments in a smaller area or space. This situation must change for the well being of the people.
The letter concluded that all the transport facilities should have connectivity facilities for easy passenger movements. To help those passengers from nearby areas to reach the bus terminus at Kilambakkam, high quality well lighted footpaths should be provided.
