The Chennai Corporation is making news now for this reason!!
The Madras High Court or MHC has directed the Chennai Corporation to give explanation about the action taken against the unauthorised constructions in Chennai. In Chennai on St Marys Road in Alwarpet, a 10 store building is being constructed for the MGM Hospitals.
It is worthy to mention that senior advocate Mr. G. Rajagopalan had filed a case in the High Court seeking a time restriction due the heavy noise pollution in the locality during the making of deep holed foundation. Point is that when this case came for the hearing previously CMDA mentioned that permission was not given for the construction work and permission would be given after paying the due amount. Later on, MHC imposed an interim stay on the MGM Hospital construction works
Yesterday, 12th February 2024 the case came to hearing before Justices R. Subramaniam and R. Sakthivel. The CMDA was questioned by these judges regarding how the hospital administration was given permission to carry out the construction works from July 2023 without getting planning permission.
On behalf of CMDA, it was mentioned that the Chennai Municipal Corporation must monitor and take action against illegal constructions. The judges then ordered the Chennai Municipal Commissioner (who was voluntarily included by the judges) regarding what action has been taken against unauthorised illegal constructions. The judges showed their displeasure with TNPCB for not reporting the procedure to monitor the noise pollution caused due to the constructions of multi storey buildings. The hearing was postponed to 27th February.
