The Chennai heat and traffic diversions due to the ongoing metro rail works did not come in the way of the devotees visiting the Kapaleeswarar temple present in Mylapore yesterday.
On Friday, 22nd of March, the highly popular Kapaleeswarar temple in southern Chennai was full of devotees. The news is that an annual car festival was held at this important temple and many people gathered to witness the decorated temple car or theru thiruvizha.
At around 9am in the morning, the temple car carrying the idols of Lord Kapaleeswarar and Devi Karpagambal left the temple. The car then went through the 4 mada streets and returned back to the temple at about 12:55pm.
Information gathered is that a car festival would usually be held on the seventh day of Panguni Peruvizha. For the devotees, the temple authorities have arranged drinking water and toilet facilities etc. It is learnt that for this important festival a total of 1200 police personnel, 2 ambulances and 1 medical team from GCC were deployed. Many senior citizens or devotees who have come for this festival complained of tiredness and giddiness etc. This was confirmed by a doctor here. It must be noted that prasadhams were distributed to the devotees.
