Following a series of complaints regarding sexual harassment of girl students, the Director of Private Schools has mandated that each school bus/vehicle must have at least one female assistant. The Department of School Education of the Tamil Nadu State Government has released 32 guidelines for operating school buses/vehicles in response to this directive.
Among the guidelines:
- All school buses/vehicles must now include one female assistant.
- GPS and surveillance cameras must be installed in all vehicles.
- CCTV footage must be collected and submitted to the Police Department.
- Only drivers with a minimum of 10 years` experience and a valid driving license may be employed.
- Daily breathalyzer tests are mandatory for drivers before operating the vehicle.
- The school administration must verify and ensure that neither the driver nor the assistant have criminal records.
- POCSO rules and regulations must be clearly explained to both the driver and assistant.
- Daily tests must be conducted to detect alcohol consumption by the driver and assistant.
- Personal details of the driver and assistant must be uploaded to the official School Information Management website.
- Submission of the personal data of the driver and assistant is required by April 5th.
This directive aims to enhance safety measures and prevent instances of harassment on school buses/vehicles.
