The University of Madras has announced the continuation of its free education initiative for the 2024-2025 academic year, following a positive response in previous years.
According to a notification from the university`s registrar, S Elumalai, the "Madras University Free Education Scheme" aims to assist economically disadvantaged students in pursuing undergraduate degree programs in Arts and Science at the university`s affiliated colleges across Tamil Nadu.
Applications for the scheme will be open to students who have passed their plus-two examinations during the 2023-2024 academic year. Preference will be given to economically backward students, orphans, children of widows, first-generation college students, and transgender individuals.
To be eligible for the scheme, the family`s annual income must not exceed Rs 3 lakh. Details and required documents for the application process can be found on the university`s portal, www.unom.ac.in.
The deadline for submitting applications with all necessary documents on the Madras University website is set at 15 days from the publication of Class XII results.
