Usman Road in the very busy T. Nagar is making news now for this important reason!!
As the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has closed down the flyover located at the busy Usman Road in T. Nagar in south Chennai till the month of December, there would be big traffic diversions and pile ups etc in T. Nagar!!
It is learnt that GCC has also started to demolish 120m of the down ramp of the flyover to connect it to the new flyover under construction. Information collected is that once the part of the down ramp near Rangan Street is demolished, work to link it with the upcoming 1.2km flyover connecting CIT Nagar and Panagal Park would start. More than 50% of construction of south Usman Road steel flyover has been completed by the GCC now.
It was later revealed by GCC officers that permission to close down the Usman Road flyover was delayed by more than 3 months. He hinted that GCC would complete the entire work by December.
He spoke about how vehicles from north Usman Road towards T. Nagar bus stand would be prohibited from using the flyover. The vehicles instead could take the service road of the flyover and reach the bus stand at T. Nagar through Prakasam Road, Baashyaam Road, Thyagaraya Road and Burkit Road.
Point to be noted is that those vehicles that go from CIT Nagar first main road towards Usman Road could take southwest Boag Road at Kannamapettai junction and take Venkatnarayana Road to reach north Usman Road.
