The Southern Railway`s fourth line project from Chennai Egmore to Beach railway station is anticipated to be completed by the end of August. The project, which began last September with a budget of ₹274.20 crore, initially aimed for a March completion but faced delays due to land acquisition issues and Cyclone Michaung.
So far, seven minor bridges and one major bridge have been completed, and piling work along the Cooum River is ongoing. Platforms at Chennai Park and Fort stations have been demolished for new construction. The removal of overhead electricity lines is 80% complete, and foundation work for foot overbridges and platform shelters is in progress.
Despite the revised timeline, a senior official emphasized that the project is progressing steadily and is now slated for completion by August.
