Bye-election for Vikravandi Constituency Scheduled for July 10!
The bye-election for the Vikravandi Assembly constituency, necessitated by the death of DMK legislator N Pugazhendi, will be held on July 10, the Election Commission of India announced on Monday. This is one of 13 constituencies across seven states where bypolls will take place on the same day.
According to the Election Commission`s notification, the last date for filing nominations is June 21, with scrutiny on June 24. Nominations can be withdrawn until June 26. Polling will occur on July 10, and votes will be counted on July 13.
Vikravandi is the third Tamil Nadu Assembly constituency to hold bypolls since the 2021 state elections. The first was Erode East, following the death of Congress MLA E Thirumahan Everaa on January 4, 2023, with his father, EVKS Elangovan, winning the subsequent by-election. The second was Vilavancode, where Congress member Tharahai Cuthbert defeated BJP`s VS Nanthini after the resignation of S Vijayadharini, who left the Congress to join the BJP.
