Southern parts of India are currently experiencing atmospheric mantle circulation. Today, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may witness light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in isolated areas. On the 14th and 15th, rain is expected in a few places, followed by scattered showers on the 16th and 17th, and isolated rainfall on the 18th.
From today until the 16th, maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu are likely to rise up to 5 degrees Fahrenheit above normal.
In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky will be partly cloudy today. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in some parts of the city during the evening or night.
Yesterday, the highest recorded rainfall in 24 hours until 8:30 am was 4 cm in Nilgiri Mattam Dewala, with 3 cm recorded in Manali, Kathivakkam, Cuddalore district Veypur, and Ponneri (Tiruvallur district).
Today, cyclonic wind speeds of 35 to 45 kmph are expected over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Kumari Sea, and Gulf of Mannar, occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph. The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a warning advising fishermen not to venture into these areas.
