The redevelopment of Chengalpattu railway station, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with a budget of Rs. 22.14 crores, has achieved over 50% completion.
According to a press release from Southern Railway, the station handles an average footfall of more than 58,000 passengers daily. It serves as a major rail hub on the Chennai Egmore - Villupuram section and is a key terminal for express trains traveling to southern districts. Additionally, the Chengalpattu - Arakkonam line connects to Chennai and Kanchipuram.
Key development works include a new station building, new entrance and porch, a new concourse, booking counters, three additional retiring rooms, an AC waiting hall, a VIP lounge, retail spaces, resurfaced platform flooring, and expanded parking spaces.
