A doctor for the common people in Chennai - Former Chennai city health officer Dr. P. Kuganantham passed away!!

Chennai has now lost a very important resident Dr. P. Kuganandham. It is a well known fact that Dr. Kuganantham has shown his huge concerns for the people who lived in the slums in north Chennai. 

On Monday, 24th June, a former Chennai city health officer passed away due to prolonged illness. He was just 68 years old. Point is that many across the medical community were in a state of shock regarding the passing of Dr. Kuganantham. They have expressed their condolences on social media.

It must be noted that Dr. Kuganantham after completing his schooling in Cheyyar came to Chennai to study his PUC at Loyola College in Nungambakkam. He later went on to do his medical studies in the highly famous Madras medical college and Stanley medical college.

The fishermen community and the factory workers in Thiruvottiyur were hugely benefited as Dr. Kuganantham began his practice there.  After entering the Chennai Corporation service in 1987, his medical professional career grew steadily and later he became the head of Communicable Diseases Hospital located in Tondiarpet in north Chennai.

 For the sake of the residents of slums belonging to north Chennai, Dr. Kuganantham introduced a round-clock-outpatient one rupee clinic. In the year 2007, Dr. Kuganantham became Chennai city health officer.

It must be recalled that when cholera began to spread in Chennai during 1992-1993 Dr. Kuganandham took many measures to protect the common people.

The chief minister of TN, Mr. MK. Stalin expressed his sadness regarding the death of Dr. Kuganandham. He spoke about how Dr. Kuganandham loved Chennai and its people. You live in our hearts doctor!!
