The Metropolitan Transport Corporation or MTC in Chennai is having superb plans to attract the passengers. For this purpose, MTC has been studying the feasibility of introducing premier air-conditioned buses having Wi-Fi facilities etc.
According to the state transport minister, Mr. S.S. Sivashankar, the transport dept has been studying the feasibility of introducing premium a/c buses with comfy seats, Wi-Fi , GPS, CCTV cameras, emergency buttons etc so that more people would prefer public transportation. He added that vehicular transmissions would also be reduced.
It is important to mention that 500 electric buses would be procured through the Gross Cost Contract in phase 2 under the Chennai City Partnership Scheme of World Bank.
Viability gap fund would be provided by the state government to bridge the gap between the expenditure and revenue. The routes and bus fares would be decided by MTC. Procurement of e-buses, maintenance and operation etc would be carried out by the operator. It is believed that MTC would be able to provide better services to its passengers. It is known that MTC has floated bids to buy e-buses through GCC in phase-1. In the future, automatic doors would be fixed in all the buses operated by the transport corporations for the safety of the passengers.
