Double whammy for the residents and commuters in Mandaveli in Chennai!!
Mandaveli based South Mada Street is making news now for the wrong reasons!!
Life is not easy for the Mandaveli residents now. The ongoing metro rail construction works have been creating a huge issue for many here.
The above said road has become so narrow due to the barricades etc and as a result it has been difficult for the commuters here. Not only that, there is now no clear deadline visible for the end of the construction works here. It is now said that the situation is a double whammy for the residents of South Mada Street and commuters crossing the stretch.
It is shocking to mention that the route to the Mandaveli bus depot is worse as the path allotted to two wheelers and pedestrians has been damaged. According to a resident from Mandaveli, commuting through the area has been very difficult and risky. He spoke about how the blue barricades have covered a huge area and there was no space for the water to drain. During the December 2023 floods, this area was among the worst affected in Chennai.
It was brought out by a seller here that the metro rail works have made it tougher for the public to navigate as wading through the water logged roads with potholes etc could never be easy. He wanted the CMRL to fix these issues before the onset of monsoons.
An official from CMRL explained that patchworks have already started in Mandaveli. He added that the platform has been raised to help the public
