Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) plans to complete construction near Mambalam canal by September 30 to mitigate monsoon flooding risks. Following concerns from the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), CMRL is accelerating the construction of the underground Nandanam Metro station, part of corridor 4.
Diaphragm walls near the canal have been removed, and excavation of the canal is set to begin soon. The bottom and top slabs of the station will be laid next, followed by work on the canal.
To manage potential flooding, a 400 HP pump has been installed near the canal, with 70-80 HP used daily to pump out water.
