Normally, GST Road in south Chennai would be buzzing with traffic. Yesterday, from morning until afternoon, there was unusually very heavy traffic congestion on the GST Road and it made the lives of many motorists and other commuters very difficult.
On Mondays, vehicular traffic would be heavy on the suburban national highway is well known. Yesterday, there was more than usual traffic congestion and this led to very slow movement of vehicles. It must be noted that due to heavy traffic on the GST Road near localities like Pallavaram, Chromepet etc many reached their offices, schools and other educational institutions very late.
The reason for very heavy traffic here was due to the parking of two wheeler vehicles on the roadsides. It was mentioned that if the traffic police remove the vehicles and impose fines then such kind of unusual traffic congestion could be avoided.
The commuters who use the GST Road frequently have revealed that not only the restaurant goers park their vehicles on the roadsides but the auto drivers also park their autos in the middle of the road (while picking or dropping the passengers) or in non-parking areas. These have led to heavy traffic congestion.
The commuters were of the opinion that the traffic police in the Tambaram police division have not been doing their jobs completely. They spoke about how the traffic police personnel catch those who do not wear seat belts, helmets etc and collect fines from them but don`t take any action against those who are responsible for traffic congestion etc.
