The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Tamil Nadu, predicting very heavy rainfall starting Thursday morning. A low-pressure area is expected to form over the central west and adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu has been experiencing continuous rainfall as the Southwest Monsoon intensifies across India. The Nilgiris district has faced particularly heavy rain over the past two days. The Chennai Meteorological Department has also warned of very heavy rains in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts.
According to an IMD press release, moderate rain is expected to continue in Tamil Nadu for the next seven days, with some districts receiving 12 to 20 cm of rain today. Due to the expected very heavy rain, an orange alert has been issued for the state.
Similar orange warnings have been issued for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
