Pallavaram-Kundrathur main road connects GST Road to Kundrathur is well known to us.
The news that has come out now is Tambaram Corporation is planning to complete the underground drainage works or UGD on the above said main road by this July end. The TN state highways dept has been maintaining Kundrathur- Pallavaram main road. This road links many localities of Thiruneermalai, Pammal, Anakhaputhur etc.
It was later mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the Tambaram Corporation that the UGD project (when Pammal and Anakaputhur were administered under the Pammal Municipality) was carried out at high speeds when the localities were merged under the Tambaram Corporation. He spoke about how more than 70% of the UGD works have been completed on the interior parts of Pammal, Sankar Nagar and Anakaputhur etc.
In the middle of June in 2024, the work regarding installation of sewage pipelines along with the manholes began on the Kundrathur- Pallavaram main road. In the 2 sections belonging to Anakaputhur and Pammal, the Tambaram Corporation has been executing the UGD works. Information is that the Tambaram Corporation has been doing this work by associating with the Tambaram Police commissionerate.
In the Anakaputhur section, 60%of the UGD works including installation of a sewage pipeline for a stretch of 1823m (out of a total of 3022m) has been completed. The road has been handed over to the Highways dept after finishing the patchwork .In the Pammal Section, 1017m (out of a total of 1437m) of pipeline has been installed.
The UGD work has been completed round the clock by the contractor by closure of the road and the Highways dept played a huge role in restoring the road for traffic. This was pointed out by an official from Tambaram Corporation.
