Education tours play an important role not only for the school students but also for the teachers.
Yesterday, about 3000 students studying in class 4 and class 5 in the GCC based schools in Chennai went on an education tour programme to places like Egmore museum, Birla planetarium, Vandalur Zoo etc. The Chennai Mayor, Priya flagged off the MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses (with the school students) outside the Ripon Buildings in Chennai yesterday.
It was brought out by a student from Ennore based corporation school that she had never been on such tours. She spoke about how she was excited to learn new things and explore these important places in and around Chennai with her classmates.
Truth is that the teachers were also excited and happy. The teachers were of the opinion that such education programme tours would rekindle critical thinking and creativity of the students. By this, the academic performance plus overall wellbeing of the students would become better.
It must be noted that after exploring the locations the students would be made to participate in the group discussions etc to share their insight and relate their experiences with their curriculum.
According to a school teacher from north Chennai, the students kept on asking questions. She spoke about how the students did not ask questions in the classrooms.
Information gathered is that from 2024-25 onwards GCC has set aside Rs 47.25 lakhs for educational tour sake. The GCC has asked MTC to keep 298 buses ready for this. It is learnt that GCC would pay MTC Rs 31lakhs.
