In celebration of Madras History Month in August, Vettiver Collective in Besant Nagar is inviting Chennai-based artists to apply for "The Good City Artists Residency." This week-long programme addresses the challenges of rapid urbanisation and climate change by engaging visual and performing artists with local communities.
Ten selected artists will receive a Rs 30,000 production grant and mentorship from August to October to create works celebrating subaltern narratives. The final artworks will be showcased in December at events in North and South Chennai.
Archanaa Seker, programme coordinator, stated, "We aim to develop an inclusive city plan, considering factors like landscape, caste, class, and waste management."
Artists aged 18 and above can apply across mediums, including Music, Theatre, Photography, Visual Arts, and Literature. Applications are open until July 31 at bit.ly/goodcityres. For queries, contact vettiver.collective@gmail.com.
