Engineering Works at Egmore Cause EMU Train Cancellations, Stranding Thousands!

The full cancellation of EMU trains on the Chennai Beach to Chengalpattu section from 7:45 am to 7:45 pm on Sunday, due to engineering works at Egmore railway station, left thousands of passengers stranded across suburban stations. The announcement came on Saturday evening, leaving many passengers unaware.

At Park railway station, commuters faced barricades and cancellation notices. S Saravanan, a regular commuter, expressed frustration over losing his fare booked via the UTS app, which did not reflect the cancellations.

Madhavi K from Ambattur, along with her family, was caught off guard by the cancellations and faced difficulties in changing trains with her children. Lakshmi K, traveling from Manali to Tindivanam, was uncertain about reaching Tambaram on time due to the disrupted schedule.

Despite passenger special trains running from Egmore to Chengalpattu every 20-30 minutes, stations like Egmore and Beach saw crowds and confusion. Auto drivers informed passengers of the cancellations outside Beach station, leading to a deserted platform.

Southern Railway stated that passenger specials were arranged and extra buses operated by MTC to compensate for the cancellations. Notices were also put up in the stations.
