The trial run of the Vande Metro, a short-distance variant of the Vande Bharat Express, was conducted on Saturday between Villivakkam and Katpadi. The train started from Chennai Beach station and completed a round trip.
Railway and Integral Coach Factory (ICF) officials on board noted vibrations, speed calibrations on curves, and potential glitches for correction. Officials stated that passenger services are expected to begin by the end of August or September, with routes to be finalized soon.
The 12-car hybrid train, rolled out from ICF Perambur, is fully air-conditioned with toilet facilities, unlike current short-distance trains. Vande Metro can travel at 130 km/h and features comfortable seats, automatic doors, and an advanced announcement system.
