Those people who are residing in the high rise buildings, gated communities etc can feel happy and relieved now!!
The superb piece of news is that these people will also get health screening under the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme of the TN govt. This was mentioned by the TN health minister Mr. M. Subramanian on Monday. He was busy inaugurating the events for the fourth year of the flagship programme. It is now mentioned that those people who live in these above said apartments could call the state helpline number 104 for free screening, health services and medication etc.
What is the MTM scheme?
This MTM scheme was inaugurated in the year 2021and it provides healthcare services at the doorsteps of the residents. It focuses mostly on the non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, kidney issues and cancer. Under this MTM scheme, various health volunteers would screen people for ailments, would identify those at risk, fix appointments for medical consultations, follow up on consultation meetings and deliver drugs at the doorsteps etc. Information gathered is that till now about 1.86cr of people in TN have been identified.
The health minister later spoke about how the volunteers should have identified atleast 2 crores of people now but they were unable to do so. The reason for that was the volunteers were unable to enter into the gated communities etc. He concluded that the MTM scheme would be available for the gated communities also.
Point to be noted is that more than 92 lakhs of persons in TN have been identified with hypertension, 46 lakhs with diabetes and 41lakhs with combination of both. Out of 56lakhs of eligible people in Chennai 53lakhs have been screened.
It must be taken into account that GCC has identified 6lakhs with hypertension, 3.5lakhs with diabetes and 3.3lakhs with both hypertension and diabetes. Under Thozillarai Thedi Maruthuvam, TN would continue to screen people at their workplaces. It is now said that soon at places like Guindy, Ambattur and Thirumullaivoyal etc, screening would be organised for the workers.
