A trough over coastal Tamil Nadu triggered rainfall in Chennai on Sunday, with intense spells forecasted for the coastal districts over the next two days. The meteorological department has issued a yellow warning for Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, and Tiruvannamalai, predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and wind speeds of up to 50 km/h.
The southwest monsoon remains vigorous, bringing respite from the heat. In the past 24 hours, Cuddalore received 13 cm of rain, Shollinganallur 12 cm, and Chennai`s areas such as Ennore, Adyar, and Tiruvottriyur each recorded 10 cm. Light to moderate rain is expected to continue, reducing maximum temperatures to around 32°C and 33°C in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam, respectively. Heavy rain is anticipated during the night in Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Ranipet.
