Southern Railway announced rapid progress on the Chennai Beach-Chennai Egmore 4th line project, aimed at boosting the city`s rail network efficiency and enabling more passenger and freight services. The 4.30 km project, costing Rs 274.20 crore, spans from Chennai Beach to Chennai Egmore.
To support the project`s completion, MRTS services between Chennai Beach and Chintadripet have been temporarily suspended since August 27, 2023. The new line will increase train frequency and improve connectivity from Chennai Egmore and Tambaram terminals.
While most work is advanced, a 110-meter stretch is pending due to land exchange with the Navy. MRTS services will resume between Chintadripet and Chennai Beach once Navy permission is granted.
