After getting the approval from the Centre, a tender (by early 2025) to identify a concessionaire to develop the second airport at Parandur near Chennai would be floated. This has been confirmed by an officer from TIDCO.
He hinted that there are plans to float the tender between January and March 2025 and it would depend on the approval. On a revenue sharing basis, the concessionaire would develop the second airport at Parandur and bidding parameters would be decided.
It must be taken into account that the process of land acquisition has been going on now. The second airport would be constructed on 2171 hectares of land across 13 villages. This would include 1386.43 hectares of agricultural lands, 577 hectares of water bodies and 173 hectares of govt or poramboke land.
It must be recollected that last month Union minister for civil aviation Mr. Kinjarappu Rammohan Naidu spoke at RS regarding steering committee (on Greenfield airports) recommending grant for site clearance for Parandur airport.
Point is that DTER or Detailed Techno Economic Report that has master plans, layouts and traffic projections etc was submitted to the state govt. For obtaining NOCs required for the approval from the Centre, DTER must be submitted to several agencies.
