The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced traffic diversions for Sunday evening to facilitate the movement of vehicles for the Kalaignar birth centenary Commemorative Coin release event at Kalaivanar Arangam. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will release the coin in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin and other senior leaders. The event is set to begin at 7 pm.
VIP and VVIP vehicles will be allowed on Kamarajar Salai, Napier Bridge, Wallajah Road, Anna Salai, and near Kalaivanar Arangam. Other VIP and senior artist vehicles can use Cathedral Road, R.K. Salai, Kamarajar Salai, Anna Salai, and Wallajah Road to reach the venue.
Increased traffic is expected around Kalaivanar Arangam, Kalaignar Memorial, and Wallajah Road, so motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
Vehicles from various districts, including heavy vehicles like buses and maxicabs, will be directed to Anna statue via Periyar statue to reach Island Ground, PWD Ground, and Chintadripet Railway Station. Light vehicles and motorcycles will be allowed up to Periyar statue, Swami Sivananda Salai, MLA Hostel Road, and Omandurar Medical College Ground.
Commercial vehicles are banned in and around Wallajah Road, Kamarajar Salai, Santhome High Road, War Memorial, and Flag Staff Road from 10 am to 4 pm. Volunteers and party cadre are requested to park in designated areas. The entire stretch of Kamarajar Salai and Wallajah Road has been temporarily declared a no-parking zone.
