Heavy rain has been affecting several districts in Tamil Nadu recently, prompting warnings for the southern regions and areas along the Western Ghats. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasts a gradual decrease in rainfall starting August 21.
Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Coimbatore, The Nilgiris, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Salem, and Namakkal over the next two days due to a trough and cyclonic circulation over the sea. Other districts may see light to moderate rainfall.
Rainfall is anticipated to taper off from Wednesday, with northern interior districts likely to experience normal to below normal conditions by the end of the month. Chennai and its suburbs might have mild evening and night showers over the next two days, with daytime temperatures potentially reaching 36-37°C next week.
The weather department has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea until August 22 due to squally weather and high winds (35-45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h) over the Gulf of Mannar, southern Tamil Nadu coast, and the Comorin area.
