About 60 citizen volunteers have been roped by GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation now for the flood mitigation work during the upcoming monsoon season. During monsoons, many localities in Chennai would get flooded is known. It is learnt that Mr. J. Kumaragurubaran, GCC Commissioner met the volunteers and discussed plans regarding distribution of food and water, rescue of residents, area of coverage and providing inputs on water stagnation etc. He spoke about how there were lots of volunteers with resources to help but did not have the channel to do.
A decision to meet the volunteers in advance was taken for the sake of enrolling them. Flood reports were prepared by the volunteers and these reports were submitted to GCC. According to Sneha Rajeev, a volunteer working with a start-up firm, it was clear that they would team with local ward members.
