From 26th September to 7th October 2024, the ISSF Junior World Championship would be held in Peru. The sensational piece of information is that 3 shooters Melvina Angelione, Nilaa Rajaa Baalu and Harsimar Singh Ratta from Tamil Nadu would be taking part in this upcoming event.
It must be taken into account that Melvina Angeline would be taking part in the women`s 50m rifle 3 positions and 50m rifle prone. Nilaa Rajaa Balu would be participating in the women`s trap and Harsimar Singh in the men`s 25m standard pistol.
Eighteen year old Melvina Angeline grabbed many eyeballs at Kelo India Youth Games and at Junior National Championships etc is known. At the National Games in 2023, Melvina was a part of the TN shooting contingent. She spoke about how she was a part of the Indian squad (juniors) for the past 12 months and how this upcoming event would be her second international competition. In 2023, Melvina Angeline won silver in the Asian Junior Championships. From 10th September to 23rd September, Indian camp for World Juniors would take place.
From as many as 6 trials conducted by NRAI or National Rifle Association of India, top 3 shooters from Group B were selected to participate in the Junior World Championships. Just similar to that of the Paris Olympics, the selection process for the World Junior Championships took place. This was as per Melvina. She would also take part in prone events apart from the 50m rifle 3P event. It must be noted that Melvina has been competing in the prone event for a long time even though it is a non-Olympic event. She concluded that she was ranked second in the Prone at the national level. Wishing the trio from TN good luck!!
