Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has reached a significant milestone in the Phase II expansion of the metro network. The tunnel boring machine (TBM) Kolli (S 81) successfully achieved a breakthrough at the Otteri shaft after covering a 903-meter stretch between Ayanavaram and Otteri stations. This marks the sixth breakthrough for Tata Projects Limited under the TU-01 contract and the seventh overall for the Phase II project.
The tunneling work faced complex challenges, including navigating sharp curves and passing through densely populated areas without affecting public infrastructure. The breakthrough event was attended by key officials from CMRL and Tata Projects, marking a significant step forward in the city`s metro expansion.
