There would be premium housing, industries plus others like warehousing, urban forests and hotels etc present on the outer ring road or ORR in Chennai in the future. Sound`s incredible right!!

It is now said that in the coming years the Chennai ORR is set to turn into a vibrant economic corridor. In the third master plan, the CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority would integrate places such as Minjur, Red Hills, Poonamallee and Vandalur. These places have been identified for particular focus by CMDA.

Information is that the 62km long ORR from Minjur in the north to Vandalur in the south of Chennai was part of the first master plan but remains undeveloped. To unlock its economic potential, CMDA is now preparing a detailed master plan focussing on specific places like Parandur airport, port near Minjur, Meenambakkam airport ad Kilambakkam bus terminus etc.

It was mentioned by an officer from CMDA that 10 pockets have been identified for land pooling and a comprehensive economic plan would be made. For the sake of uniform growth, grid road formation is under study. He hinted that Poonamallee would become a business district. The reasons for that were due to its location close to the Bengaluru highway, proposed metro connectivity and proximity to planned Thirumazhisai town.

It must be noted that in Vandalur more IT and ITES companies and residential projects have been planned and this place could become a cosmopolitan hub. In the same way, Minjur is slated to become an industrial and multi modal hub. There would be many port based activities, factories, warehouses etc here. The CMDA has plans to develop Red Hills into an eco-sensitive zone and it would have urban forests, green belts etc.

It was later brought out by Mr. K. Mothish Kumar belonging to Credai, Chennai that the ring roads would spur growth.
